RICHARD WILLS TRAINING

Event videography and social media content for Richard Wills Training. Filmed at Lords Cricket Ground, Chelmsford City Racecourse and the University of East Anglia.

Richard Wills runs leadership training for teams in the public and private sectors, built around immersive, scenarioโ€‘based learning. The Triโ€‘Sector Challenge is the headline event: a day-long exercise that places participants in a live, evolving crisis and asks them to work together under pressure. The brief to MADE BY WOODSMOKE was to capture the energy and intensity of the day while also communicating what participants take away once the dust settles.

I shot the films on two separate occasions, at Lordโ€™s Cricket Ground in London and at Chelmsford City Racecourse. Each venue demanded a nimble approach. The exercise unfolds across multiple rooms with parallel discussions, briefings, and decision points. To keep pace without disrupting the flow, I worked with a compact camera setup and used a gimbal. The aim was complete coverage of key moments while staying unobtrusive.

I conducted interviews with participants and facilitators throughout the day at natural pauses. Those testimonials had two roles. First, they gave viewers a sense of the challenge itself. The uncertainty, the speed of change, and the way people from different departments find a common language under pressure. Second, they made the benefit tangible. Clearer decisionโ€‘making, better communication, and a renewed sense of what it takes to lead in difficult circumstances.

Social media videos

Beyond the event films, I also produced social content in focused batches. Scripts prepared by Richard ensured each message was crisp and succinct. A teleprompter let Richard follow his scripts while maintaining eye contact to camera.

Locations were chosen at the University of East Angliaโ€™s Enterprise Centre and at The English Whiskey Distillery. These provided clean, characterful backdrops without distracting from the message.

Lighting and audio was kept consistent so the library felt coherent when published over time. I shot the videos on a Canon C70 and a RED Dragon cinema camera, and finished the footage in DaVinci Resolve with a restrained grade.

The result

The outcome is a set of highโ€‘quality films that reflect the intensity of the Triโ€‘Sector Challenge and the practical benefits of Richardโ€™s training. The videos are equally at home on his website and across social channels, building trust and giving prospective clients a clear sense of the experience.
